About applying for a certificate of removal - liquor imported in bottles

  1. If you want to remove your imported liquor from the port of entry you must apply for a certificate from the Department of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development (DALRRD) Extended Detention Division at the port of entry so that it can be moved to where you want to sell it in South Africa.
  2. Once the Extended Detention Division has approved your application it will send your liquor to a bonded agriculture warehouse in a container and notify the inspector.
  3. You must go to the warehouse and give the inspector the certificate of removal. You must unpack your liquor products from the container while supervised by the inspector.
  4. You will not be able to move your liquor from the port of entry to a place of sale in South Africa without the certificate of removal for liquor.

 What you should do

  1. Get the Application for a certificate of removal form at the DALRRD Extended Detention Division at the port of entry.
  2. Fill in the form and submit it to the official of the DALRRD Extended Detention Division at the port of entry.
  3. You must fill in a separate application form for each liquor product that has a different bottle size, shape, trade name and label. The application forms must be accompanied by the following:
  1. A 750-millilitre sample which the inspector will draw from the delivered product
  2. Import certificate.
  1. If your application is successful, your liquor products will be delivered to a bonded agriculture warehouse in a container. Go to that warehouse to give the inspector your application for certificate of removal and unpack the liquor from the container.
