Telecommunications Act 103 of 1996 [repealed]

The repealed Telecommunications Act 103 of 1996 intended:

• to make new provision for the regulation of telecommunication activities other than broadcasting, and for the control of the radio frequency spectrum; and for that purpose to establish an independent South African Telecommunications Regulatory Authority and a Universal Service Agency;
• to repeal
  • the Radio Act, 1952, and
  • the Radio Amendment Acts of 1957, 1962, 1963, 1969 and 1974 and
• to amend
  • the General Law Amendment Acts of 1957 and 1975,
  • the Post Office Act, 1958,
  • the Post Office Service Act, 1974 [repealed in 1998],
  • the Broadcasting Act, 1976, [repealed in 1999]
  • the Legal Succession to the South African Transport Services Act, 1989, and
  • the Independent Broadcasting Authority Act, 1993 [repealed in 2006]; and
• to provide for matters connected therewith.
