Deputy Minister Elizabeth Thabethe officiates certificate ceremony for Tourism Resource Efficiency Training Programme, 22 Feb

Western Cape learners to receive credentials in the field of responsible tourism practices

Deputy Minister of Tourism, Ms. Elizabeth Thabethe, will officiate the certification ceremony of Cape Town learners who successfully completed the Department’s Tourism Resource Efficiency Training Programme.

Initiated in 2017, the Tourism Resource Efficiency Training initiative is funded by the Green Tourism Incentive Programme, and forms part of the greater NTSS objective to promote responsible
tourism practices in the sector.

Twenty (20) unemployed graduates from Western Cape Province recently participated in the Tourism Resource Efficiency Programme to gain skills in Resource Efficient and Cleaner
Production Methodologies.

Implemented in partnership with the National Cleaner Production Centre – South Africa (NCPC –SA), the training comprised of a week of theoretical training and six months of on the job training - with mentorship facilitated by the organisation.

It is envisioned that the Tourism Resource Efficiency trainees will contribute to inculcating a culture of responsible tourism practices, which will lead to increased awareness and pro-active action to reduce the Industry’s carbon footprint.
