Minister Barbara Creecy hosts National Climate Change Ministerial Stakeholder Dialogue, 4 Oct

The Minister of Environment, Forestry and Fisheries, Ms Barbara Creecy, will host the annual stakeholder dialogue in preparation for the upcoming United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) at the Birchwood Hotel, in Boksburg on 4October 2019.

The Minister will outline her plans and vision for the national climate change response aligned to the priorities of government and the environment sector.

Delegates will be updated on government’s activities and initiatives in the National Climate Change Response, including the finalisation of the Climate Change Bill.  Once adopted the new measure will enable the alignment of policies that influence South Africa’s response to climate change to ensure that the transition to a lower carbon and climate resilient economy and society as outlined in the National Development Plan (NDP) is not constrained by contradictory policy directives.

COP25 will focus on action to implement the Paris Agreement and the new rules agreed to at COP24 in Katowice, Poland, in 2018 where parties adopted decisions related to the implementation of the Paris Agreement from 2021, and agreed that reporting on implementation by UNFCCC Parties will start in 2024.
