Deputy Minister Maggie Sotyu leads Nelson Mandela Day in Free State, 26 Jul

Deputy Minister of Environment, Forestry and Fisheries to lead Nelson Mandela Day in Thaba Nchu, Free State

The Deputy Minister of Environment, Forestry and Fisheries, Ms Maggie Sotyu, joined by the MEC for Economic, Small Business Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs, Mr Makalo Mohale, will lead Nelson Mandela Day celebrations in Thaba Nchu, Free State on Friday 26 July 2019.

As part of celebrating Nelson Mandela’s legacy and positively impacting the society, the Deputy Minister and the MEC will donate school shoes, school bags, stationery, garden tools, waste bins and blankets, school desks to learners at Tawana Primary school. 

The day’s activities will include a clean-up campaigns around the schools, Tawana Primary school and Sitiloane High school, a visit to the buyback centre and waste transformer station,  planting trees, establishments of vegetable garden.

Nelson Mandela Day not only celebrates Nelson Mandela’s life, but it is a global call to action for people to recognise their ability to have a positive effect on others around them. Marking the day hopes to inspire people to embrace the values that Mandela shared. These values include democracy, freedom, equality, diversity, reconciliation and respect. This year the day will be celebrated under the theme “What can I do to - Make Every Day a Mandela Day”
