Voter registration awareness
MEC Nomusa Dube-Ncube, went all out to mobilise people in Isipingo to register for the fourth general elections during the final registration week. It was quite evident that the scorching sun/blazing sun did not bother Dube-Ncube as she walked the streets of Isipingo, together with Mayor of eThekwini Metro, Cllr James Nxumalo.
Dressed in a green top and a matching skirt, Dube-Ncube seemed ready to do battle as she engaged street vendors, ordinary and taxi operators. Both the MEC and Mayor Nxumalo, officials from the municipality and the department and various artists handed out pamphlets which were about the final registration week.
Some of the people were happy to see high ranking political leaders in the streets but other voiced their concerns over unfulfilled promises made by the current government.
“These upcoming elections are a milestone for everyone in this country as they occur in a year that marks 20 years of a democratic dispensation. The likes of Tata Madiba (who passed on last year), Walter Sisulu, Govan Mbeki, O.R. Tambo and many more, fought for the most part of their lives in order for us to exercise the right to vote, so I urge those that have not registered to go and do so” said Dube-Ncube during the voter awareness campaign.
