The Medical, Dental and Supplementary Health Service Professions Act 56 of 1974 intends:

  • to consolidate and amend the laws providing for the establishment of the South African Medical and Dental Council, for control over the training of and for the registration of medical practitioners, dentists and practitioners of supplementary health service professions;
  • to provide for control over the training of and for the registration of psychologists; and
  • to provide for matters incidental thereto.
