The Medical, Dental and Supplementary Health Service Professions Amendment Act 89 of 1997 intends:

to amend the Medical, Dental and Supplementary Health Service Professions Act, 1974, so as to insert certain definitions and to delete others:
to provide for the establishment of the Health Professions Council of South Africa and professional boards for health professions;
to abolish the Interim National }ledical and Dental Council of South Africa; to provide for control over the education, training, registration and practices of health professionals: and
to provide for matters connected therewith.
