The Medical, Dental and Supplementary Health Service Professions Amendment Act 89 of 1997 intends:

  • to amend the Medical, Dental and Supplementary Health Service Professions Act, 1974, so as to insert certain definitions and to delete others:
  • to provide for the establishment of the Health Professions Council of South Africa and professional boards for health professions;
  • to abolish the Interim National }ledical and Dental Council of South Africa; to provide for control over the education, training, registration and practices of health professionals: and
  • to provide for matters connected therewith.

  • 30 April 1999 , Sections 2 to 7 and38 to 44 (Gazette 19946 of 23 April 1999)
  • 23 January 1998, except Sections 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 38, 39, 40, 41, 42, 43, 44 and 50 (Gazette 18649 of 6 February 1998)
