BE IT ENACTED by the Parliament of the Republic of South Africa, as follows:—

Amendment of section 5 of Act 56 of 1974, as substituted by section 5 of Act 18 of 1995 and amended by section 4 of Act 45 of 1997

1. Section 5 of the Medical, Dental and Supplementary Health Service Professions Act, 1974, is hereby amended by the substitution for subsection (6) of the following subsection:

“(6) Subject to the provisions of section 6. the members of the council shall hold office as from the date contemplated in subsection (5) until the date of constitution of a new council, but not exceeding [30] 48 months.”.

Short title and commencement

2. This Act shall be called the Medical, Dental and Supplementary Health Service Professions Amendment Act. 1998, and shall be deemed to have come into effect on 11 December 1997.
