The Electoral Commission Act 51 of 1996 intends:
- to make provision for the establishment and composition of an Electoral Commission to manage elections for national, provincial and local legislative bodies and referenda; and
- to make provision for the establishment and composition and the powers, duties and functions of an Electoral Court; and
- to provide for matters in connection therewith.
