The repealed Independent Electoral Commission Act 150 of 1993 intended:

  • to make provision for the conduct of free and fair elections for the National Assembly and any other legislature to be elected contemplated in the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa Act, 1993;
  • to make provision for the conduct of certain referendums by the Independent Electoral Commission; and
  • to provide for matters in connection therewith.
