Western Cape launches Karoo Crossing route in Prince Albert, 23 Sept

Premier Winde & Minister Maynier to launch Karoo Crossing cycle route in Prince Albert / Minister Maynier to visit Hermanus

On Wednesday, 23 September 2020, Premier Alan Winde and Minister of Finance and Economic Opportunities, David Maynier, will be launching the Karoo Crossing route in Prince Albert, a 358km journey and fifth route within the Cape Cycle Route network.  

The UNWTO theme for the 2020 World Tourism Day Celebrations is “Tourism and Rural Development" and so it is significant that the route should be launched in this year. Stretching from Knysna to Calitzdorp, the Cape Cycle Route network gives visitors a great opportunity to explore some of the smaller towns and lesser-known attractions that the Western Cape have to offer.

The next day, Minister David Maynier will be in Hermanus to visit and showcase the local attractions and encourage support for the local tourism and hospitality sector as part of Tourism Month. Minister Maynier will also be meeting with local tourism representatives and businesses to hear how the Covid-19 restrictions have affected their operations and share ideas about how the Western Cape government can support economic recovery in the region.
