MEC Albert Fritz on budget adjustment for 2018/19

WC Social Development to expand services

MEC of Social Development, Albert Fritz, and his Department’s officials briefed the Standing Committee of Social Development on the budget adjustment for the 2018-19 financial year. It was announced that there will be an expansion of services as more social workers will be appointed.

The base line budget for the Department has further increased by R5.128 million to address the growing need for services.

MEC Fritz said, "I am incredibly pleased that through this adjustment, we will be able to expand our services by appointing 47 new social work graduates in addition to the current 37 social work graduates funded through the Conditional Grant.  A further 10 social workers as well as two social work supervisors will also be appointed.”

MEC Fritz further added, "The empowerment of vulnerable persons to become self-reliant is the utmost priority of this Department and I am pleased to see that this will be achieved through the appointment of more social work practitioners."

The Department of Social Development in the Western Cape, under the leadership of Minister Albert Fritz, will continue to provide services to address the needs of the most vulnerable in our society.
