The Department of Water and Sanitation will host a Ministerial Interactive Session on the Transformation of the Water Sector
The Department of Water and Sanitation, led by Minister Gugile Nkwinti will host a Ministerial Interactive Session for more than 300 delegates to discuss transformation of the water sector on Friday, 15 February 2019 at the Birchwood Hotel in Boksburg.
The Ministerial Session is aimed at tackling the current transformation challenges in the sector, including how the obstacles that have impeded transformation to date can be overcome.
The focus of the session will also be on the institutional arrangements for local water resource management, in order to work towards a clear common vision for transformation and decentralisation of decision making and functions through:
- Hastening the establishment of the Catchment Management Agencies;
- Transforming Irrigation Boards to WUAs; and
- Building stronger connection between local water resource management institutions, Municipalities and Water Boards.
Members of the media are invited to attend and will be afforded an opportunity to engage with Minister Nkwinti and key stakeholders in the water sector.
