Department shocked and saddened by a patient who took own life

The North West Department of Health is astounded, saddened and dismayed at learning of the sad news of a 51 year old male patient from Dithakwaneng Village near Vryburg who took his own life. The Department can confirm the unfortunate and sad incident as true.

The CEO of Joe Morolong Hospital confirmed this unfortunate incident of a discharged patient who committed suicide within the hospital premises.

The patient was collected at the village by Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) on Tuesday at around 22H50 and admitted over night. He was then referred to a psychologist yesterday and got discharged same day having been given a follow-up appointment.

Following his discharge, the patient was then discovered by a staff member hanging on the tree around staff accomodation area at around 15H00 yesterday.

Police and forensic were immediately called into the scene. They came and the body of the deceased was take to the forensic mortuary. Transport was sent out to fetch the family and debriefing session with affected staff was done.

The Department however awaits a full report from which a decision on the way forward would taken.
