Basic Education Minister leads school safety summit
Minister of Basic Education, Mrs Angie Motshekga will on Friday 12 October 2018 lead a School Safety Summit at the St Georges Hotel in Centurion, Gauteng.
The aim of the summit is to bring together education stakeholders to find workable solutions to the various safety issues facing schools as well as chart a way forward to allow for safer environments across all schools.
As the sector continues to face more incidents of violent conduct within the confines of schools, the summit will focus on finding practical solutions to strengthening the Departments efforts in the improving safety at schools.
Key priorities of the summit will include analyzing provincial trends, the role of SGB’s in promoting and championing safety at schools as well as strengthening programmes such as the ‘’Adopt a Cop’’ project which is championed by the DBE and SAPS.
The Lekgotla brings together key education stakeholders and experts in their respective fields to address some of the challenges facing the sector and plan for the year ahead. Under this year’s theme all commissions will include an emphasis on the fourth industrial revolution in ensuring our learners have the best possible chance at succeeding in a fast changing global environment.
