Reserve Bank staff mark Mandela Day at schools for children with special needs
South African Reserve Bank (SARB) employees did their bit yesterday (Saturday, 16 July) for disadvantaged communities to mark this year's Mandela Day by volunteering to fix, clean and upgrade facilities at schools for children with special needs in six provinces.
The Governor and the Deputy Governors of the SARB also participated, as did the bank's senior management. In terms of the SARB's employee volunteerism programme, employees spent Saturday painting, tiling and doing gardening and electrical work at the schools. In addition, the SARB donated equipment, including kitchen equipment and motorized wheelchairs, required by each school to enable them to function adequately.
“Mandela day is a day that gives ordinary citizens the opportunity to make a positive contribution to better the lives of the less fortunate. As part of the SARB’s broader corporate social investment programme, we encourage our employees to contribute directly to social and community development,” says Mr Lesetja Kganyago, Governor of the SARB.
