Premier Willies Mchunu welcomes declaration of Special Funeral for Riot Mkhwanazi

KwaZulu-Natal Premier Willies Mchunu has commended the President of the Republic His Excellency J.G Zuma for declaring a Special Provincial Official Funeral for the late struggle stalwart Mr Riot Mkhwanazi.

Premier remarked during the memorial service at the University of Zululand: “What saddens us is that his departure is a depletion of solid leaders not just for the ANC as a ruling party but of our new democracy as a whole.”

“Mkhwanazi, affectionately known as “Makhomanisi” served the whole country with dedication until his last moment. The visit by the president to the family on Tuesday including messages of condolences that have been outpouring from different parts of the country are an indication of the impact that Mkhwanazi made throughout his life.”

“It is not surprising that former and current members of the legislature and members of the executive council including local municipalities are attending the memorial service to pay respect to one of the notable struggle stalwarts.”

“Community leaders and ordinary members of society across all political lines are united and paying tribute to Shamase. He was was good and a kind man, a mature and highly experienced leader.”
