KwaZulu-Natal Premier Willies Mchunu has commended the President of the Republic His Excellency J.G Zuma for declaring a Special Provincial Official Funeral for the late academic giant and struggle stalwart Reverend Prof Bonganjalo Goba.
Premier remarked: “We bow our head in honour of this great son of Africa. He was a dedicated and fearless fighter for the freedom that we enjoy today. We salute his tireless effort for the liberation of all of his compatriots.”
“He gave support to the exile community and neighbouring countries during the massacres by the apartheid regime, leading church leaders and meeting leaders of the ANC in exile and giving spiritual support and ministering the bereaved.”
“Prof Goba dedicated his entire life to serving Christ. He was well known for his inspirational and uplifting sermons. A great philosopher and brilliant teacher of theology who taught his students to be open minded, critical analysts and thinkers. He was an efficient administrator who served in various institutions with distinction.”
“We are calling upon the academic community and former students of Prof Goba to join the family and members of the United Congregational Church of Southern Africa in bidding farewell to this academic giant. We will remember him for successfully bringing together M.L Sultan Technikon and Natal Technikon to form Durban University of Technology.”
“Prof Goba shared a special relationship with Isilo SamaBandla and President JG Zuma all of whom share a special bond of respect. He was often invited to bless various government functions and events.”
