Premier Willies Mchunu on declaration of Provincial Special Funeral Mewlall Ramgobin

Provincial Special Funeral Mewlall Ramgobin: Statement by the Premier of the Province of KwaZulu-Natal Willies Mchunu

We are grateful to the President of the Republic His Excellency J.G Zuma who acceded to our request for the funeral of Mewlall Ramgobin (Mewa) to be declared Provincial Special Funeral.

This is a fitting tribute to the man whose contribution towards the liberation of this country will be written by many authors and writers for many years to come.

In line with the President’s directive, we are accordingly informing the people of KwaZulu-Natal that tomorrow the National Flag should be half-masted as a sign of mourning.

When the National Flag is half-masted, it should first be hoisted to the top of the flagstaff and then slowly lowered until the centre of the flag is half-way between the truck and the bottom of the flagstaff.  Before the flag is lowered at sunset, or at the appointed time, it should first be hoisted to the top of the flagstaff. Regulations require that no other flags (eg. SAPS, SANDF or corporate flags etc) should be displayed when the flag is flown at Half-mast.

The details of the funerals are as follows:
Date: 23 October 2016
Venue: Mount View Civic Centre (Verulam KwaZulu-Natal North Coast)
Time: 14h00 to 17h00

As we bid farewell to Mewa, we are happy and proud that today KwaZulu-Natal is home to citizens of different racial and cultural backgrounds who make up the rich and diverse tapestry of cultural heritage that characterizes this beautiful province. This should be attributed to his immense contribution.
