Premier Chupu Stanley Mathabatha launches second phase of COVID-19 vaccination of citizens aged 60 years and above in Limpopo, 17 May

Limpopo Premier Chupu Stanley Mathabatha will launch the second phase of COVID-19 vaccination of citizens aged 60 years and above. The Covid-19 vaccination will commence using the Pfizer vaccine which will be administered to those who have successfully registered through the Electronic Vaccination Data System(EVDS) self enrolment platform.

In view of the cold chain requirements for Pfizer vaccines the following six sites were selected as the main vaccination hubs for Pfizer vaccination in the province:
- Pietersburg Hospital;
- Mankweng Hospital;
- St Rita's Hospital;
- Donald Fraser Hospital;
- Dr CN Phatudi Hospital and;
- Mokopane Hospital.

This phase 2 rollout is aimed at protecting the population against the SARS-Cov-2 virus, by interrupting transmission through achievement of herd immunity and reducing the morbidity and mortality caused by the COVID-19 disease.

"We encourage all eligible vaccine recipients to register for vaccines through the Electronic Vaccination Delivery System(EVDS). Vaccine recipient will be able to access the service at their nearest accredited vaccination Centre with no payment. The registration process will require all of us to work together to ensure the success of the COVID-19 vaccination. Only those who have registered will be vaccinated and to avoid overcrowding, long queues and risks of spreading COVID-19 we must wait to be invited by the department of health through sms to go and receive our vaccine" says Premier Mathabatha.

The launch of the COVID-19  phase 2 vaccination rollout is scheduled as follows:
