Premier Winde welcomes over 1 million vaccines administered in the Western Cape

It gives me great pleasure to announce that the Western Cape has exceeded 1 million vaccinations administered yesterday evening.

I want to commend every official and healthcare worker who has been working tirelessly to ensure that we vaccinate as many people as possible in our efforts to beat this COVID-19 pandemic and save lives.

The Western Cape Government, through the Provincial Department of Health, is now able to administer 30 000 vaccinations per day or 150 000 per week, subject to vaccine supply.

To beat this pandemic, and to save lives and jobs, we need all eligible persons to get registered and vaccinated.

There are approximately 200 public vaccination sites open daily to assist members of the public. In addition to these, the Department also activated 10 sites on Saturday which saw 2000 people being vaccinated.

The vaccination offers great protection against severe illness and death. To date, almost 70% of health workers have been vaccinated and we continue to see the positive impact it has on our workforce.
