Premier Alan Winde delivers special address to the province, 22 Oct

The Western Cape Provincial Parliament has agreed to a request by Premier Alan Winde to address the legislature.

The special address will be delivered on Thursday, and the follow-up debate will take place on Friday.

Premier Winde said: "I delivered my State of the Province Address in Mitchells Plain on 20 February. Less than a month later, President Cyril Ramaphosa announced a state of emergency. Covid-19 has had a significant impact on the lives of residents and the work of this government. Since my address earlier this year, budgets have shifted and we have had to take serious decisions about the priorities of this government and our focus going forward," Premier Winde said.

"This address is an opportunity to outline the work the provincial government has done throughout the pandemic and outline the new priorities we have identified in order to move forward and start our recovery," he added.

"I would like to thank the Speaker of the Western Cape Provincial Parliament, and all of the opposition parties for agreeing to this request, in the interest of keeping the citizens of the Western Cape informed about the work this government is doing to save jobs, to keep them safe and to advance dignity and wellbeing."

The speech will be delivered at 2h15 on Thursday. The debate will take place at 9h00 on Friday.
