Premier Senzo Mchunu conveys condolences to family of Dr. Lionel Mtshali

Passing of former KwaZulu-Natal Premier, Honourable Dr. Lionel Mtshali

KwaZulu-Natal Premier, Senzo Mchunu has noted, with great sadness the passing of former KwaZulu-Natal premier, Lionel Mtshali, who died at the age of 80.

Mtshali was sworn in as Premier of KwaZulu-Natal on 10 February 1999 and remained in office till 23 April 2004. Mtshali obtained a Masters degree in Education from the University of the Free State and worked as a teacher and principal for 12 years.

He later became an inspector and chief inspector before working as provincial Education and Culture minister. Mtshali also served as IFP national chairperson. He is survived by his wife and four children.

Premier Senzo Mchunu conveyed his sincerest condolences to the family of former Premier Mtshali after his passing today and took the opportunity to thank him for his selfless service to the people of KwaZulu-Natal.
