National Youth Development Agency on removal of experience for entry-level jobs

NYDA welcomes decision to scrap experience for entry-level jobs

The 3rd National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) board placed as part of the strategy the removal of experience as an entry level requirement and it has championed this call in all platforms including the recently held Jobs Summit.

We are encouraged that President Cyril Ramaphosa accepted our argument with positivity and he indicated this when he addressed young people on June 16 Youth Day, “There are many graduates, who have completed university degrees, who are still unemployed. On this Youth Day, we call on all companies – both in the public and private sector – to make a deliberate effort to seek out unemployed graduates and employ them.”

He subsequently presented this to Parliament and we are happy to see the pronouncement by the Minister of Public Service and Administration (DPSA).

The NYDA therefore welcomes the pronouncement by the Minister of DPSA, Ms. Ayanda Dlodlo to scrap off experience from 2019 on all entry-level jobs in government. Minister further declared the introduction of a new Z83 form for application of vacancies.

In response to the new Z83 form, the NYDA encourages young people to visit our branches across the country to access free Wi-Fi and internet services to apply for available vacancies.

According to Mtsweni, “The NYDA has been at the centre of this discourse through lobby and advocacy. Even during the much-anticipated Jobs Summit, we remained steadfast that the only practical way to reduce the high youth unemployment rate in the immediate is scrapping of experience for all entry-level jobs.”

“South Africa’s youth should be rest assured that the NYDA remains their hope and will drive their agenda for socio-economic emancipation to its logical conclusion,” added Mtsweni.
