North West Legislature bids farewell to Chris Hattingh

On Thursday 12 November 2015 the North West Provincial Legislature Speaker, Hon Sussana Dantjie bid farewell to the longest serving Member of the North West Provincial Legislature, Hon. Chris Hattingh. Hon. Hattingh is going to join members of the Democratic Alliance serving in the National Council of Provinces (NCOP) in Cape Town. Hon. Hattingh has served in the Legislature for 21 years, from 1994 when the first new democratic dispensation was ushered in.

Speaker Dantjie described Hon Hattingh as a person who served in the Legislature with distinction. “You were the longest serving Member of this Provincial Legislature and you served it with distinction. Hopefully you will continue to raise the flag of the North West Province at the NCOP,” said Hon. Speaker Dantjie.

Hon. Mahlakeng Mahlakeng, speaking on behalf of the African National Congress described Hon. Hattingh as somebody whom had actually taught him and most of the Members of the Provincial Legislature a lot. “We have learnt a lot from his vast experience in this Legislature, we are actually loosing institutional memory.

“Quite often we would go back and ask him, how they actually did something, in the years before we came to the Legislature. He served with all Premiers that we’ve had in this province. I am actually sympathising with the Economic Freedom Fighters because they are still new in their role as opposition and now he is leaving them more poorer,” said Hon. Mahlakeng.
