North West Legislature to Host Youth Sectoral Parliament in Klerksdorp

On Friday, 24 June 2022, the North West Provincial Legislature will be hosting the Youth Sectoral Parliament under the theme: “Young Entrepreneurs – Promoting sustainable livelihoods and resilience of young people for a better tomorrow” at Matlosana Ballroom Hall in Matlosana Local Municipality at 10h00.

The objective of the sectoral parliament is to strengthen oversight and accountability on issues affecting the youth and assess progress made in implementing entrepreneurial programs for the sector in the province; to promote and lobby for support of young entrepreneurs in order to ensure growth in the economy and to build sustainable stakeholder relations that will deepen participatory democracy.

Young entrepreneurs have been identified from the four districts to present on their business profiles at the session. The presentations will focus on:

  • How the business started;
  • How did the business survive challenges created by COVID 19 pandemic;
  • Challenges and Achievements, and
  • Has the business received any support from government?

The North West Provincial Legislature firmly believes that for the Youth Parliament 2022 to succeed, it is imperative to engage in a debate of fostering an entrepreneurial spirit through which more people, especially young people, will feel capable of starting their own businesses rather than moving up slowly through the ranks in someone else’s venture. This is vital for natural growth in the country whereby the new business can breathe the necessary life and a spirit of potential into the economy.

Representatives from the Office of the Premier together with different provincial departments and municipalities; 30 young people per district including from political parties represented in the legislature and from different youth structures will attend the sectoral parliament.

The observation of all COVID 19 protocols and regulations will be adhered to in hosting the session. The event will be streamed live in the North West Provincial Legislature Facebook and other social media platforms such as YouTube Channel.
