North West Health on resumption of North West Nursing College academic activities

Academic activities to resume at North West Nursing College, Mmabatho Campus

Academic activities at North West Nursing College, Mmabatho Campus will resume on Monday, 3 July 2017.

The decision to resume academic activities at the college was taken on Thursday following a meeting with nursing bursary holders, parents of bursary holders, the Department of Health and nursing college management.

Head of Department, Dr Thabo Lekalakala said the department will continue to create conducive learning environment at the college and urged bursary holders to work with college management on a catch-up plan to cover for lost time.

Dr Lekalakala said the department will increase monthly stipend by R1500 for bursary holders to cover for bursary holders to seek alternative accommodation while student accommodation at the college is being refurbished.

The decision to increase stipend for bursary holders was motivated by the refusal to accept alternative accommodation organised by the Department of Health.

Dr. Lekalakala has committed to meet regularly with Student Representative Council on issues affecting the college and bursary holders.

The college was closed on 03 May 2017 following a violent protest by bursary holders at the college.
