New nurses told to serve with pride
Four hundred and sixty nine new nurses have joined the North West Province healthcare system to improve access to health service.
This follows a graduation ceremony of nursing professional from North West Nursing College held in Orkney on Friday, 16 October 2016. The college consists of two campuses in Mmabatho and Klerksdorp, and it tasked with the role of producing nurses for public health facilities in the province.
Newly qualified nurse, Zanele Cekiso thanked the Department of Health for investing in her nursing education. The only way to repay the department for this gesture is to serve the people pride and love, Cekiso said. Cekiso now works at Boitekong Clinic near Rustenburg.
The nurses graduated in different fields including, comprehensive nursing, midwifery, psychiatric nursing, advanced, midwifery and neonatal nursing science, operating theatre, and clinical nursing science.
Health MEC, Dr. Magome Masike said the graduation ceremony represents yet another milestone in quest to realise a vision of optimum health for all individuals and communities in the province. The department has a desire to capacitate health care system and to ensure that all health facilities operate at optimum level by rendering the best quality health services possible to our people, MEC Masike said.
To achieve optimum level, Masike said his department undertook to educate them and equip young people with the necessary skills that are desperately needed by the health care sector all over the world.
He urged nursed to prioritise serving communities with pride as more nurses are needed at community level in rural areas.
“The demand for health facilities to open 24 hours is increasing. Many of our communities are demanding clinics and health centres to be built in their villages. This can only be achieved if we have more nurses,” Masike said.
Nurses in the province enjoy benefits such as scares skills and rural allowance. Allowances are used to attract nurses to rural areas.
