National Youth Development Agency and Umngeni Municipality launches YouthBuild programme, 29 Jul

100 local unemployed youth to build a school in Umngeni Municipality

The National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) in partnership with Umngeni Local Municipality is launching the YouthBuild programme that will see 100 unemployed youth being trained in construction and participating in building a school.

The project, which the NYDA has contributed over R1.7-million towards, will target unemployed young people who are becoming prone to risky behaviors due to being out of school and unemployed. The youth will be provided with a short skills development intervention using the YouthBuild programme model to empower them with technical skills that they can use to empower themselves and generate income for themselves and their families.

The training identified for the project will be an accredited construction skills programme at NQF level 3 and it will be in the bricklaying and plastering trades. The programme is part of the Building and Civil Engineering Qualification approved by the Construction SETA.

Members of the media are hereby invited to join the Honourable Mayor of Umngeni Municipality, Cllr Mbali Myeni and the Executive Chairperson of the NYDA Mr Yershen Pillay, to the official launch which will take place as follows:
