Local Government Association convenes fourth SALGA National Communicators Forum, 24 Nov

SALGA to convene the 4th SALGA National Communicators Forum

The South African Local Government Association (SALGA) will on Tuesday, 24 November 2020, convene the 4th SALGA National Communicators Forum under the theme “Learning in the shifting Communication landscape”.

The NCF, which will be virtually convened, brings together heads of municipal communication and communication officials, marketers and municipal spokespersons across the 257 municipalities of the country, as well as Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA), Government Communication and Information Systems (GCIS), Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) communication heads, among others.

SALGA CEO Xolile George says: “The objectives for the 4th NCF is to prepare the municipal communicators to work towards a conducive communication environment ahead of 2021 Local Government Elections, facilitate training and capacity building, and provide a platform of best practices”.

“Key in the agenda of the 4th SNCF is also the implementation of Economic Reconstruction and Recovery Communication Plan, the District Development Model, a focus in shifting communication landscape and media trends brought by the reality of Covid-19 pandemic,” says Xolile George.

The SNCF is a peer learning platform for local government communicators. It aims to facilitate discussions surrounding challenges and best practices in the municipal communication space as well as to build an interactive community of local government communicators.

SALGA convened the inaugural meeting in March 2017 at the CSIR International Convention Centre, Pretoria with all heads of municipal communication in attendance. The communicator’s forum has been identified as an effective way to create awareness amongst municipal communicators about the importance of timeous and relevant communication as well as highlighting and taking action on challenges faced by municipal communicators.
