Employment and Labour Minister to host webinar on the department’s role and interventions to mitigate worst effects of Covid-19 in the labour market

More than a year on – the Department of Employment and Labour Minister T.W Nxesi, is inviting the media to participate in a webinar to share the Department’s milestone and interventions, to help mitigate the worst effects of COVID-19 pandemic in the labour market.

The webinar will be held under the theme: “Social relief & Health and Safety interventions to mitigate the effects of Covid-19”.

Employment and Labour Minister TW. Nxesi, will deliver opening remarks with Employment and Labour Deputy Minister Boitumelo delivering the closing address. The Minister will share the platform with Department of Employment and Labour Director-General Thobile Lamati, the Compensation Fund Commissioner Vuyo Mafata, and the Unemployment Insurance Fund Acting Commissioner Marsha Bronkhorst.

Cosatu Secretary-General Bheki Ntshalintshali, Business Unity South Africa Vice-President Martin Kingston and Independent Economist Duma Gqubule, will also share the platform to reflect and review the impact of the department’s efforts in response to Covid-19 in the labour market now and beyond.

The focus will be on the Covid-19 Temporary Employer/Employee Relief Scheme managed by the Unemployment Insurance Fund, Compensation Fund’s interventions to compensate and support families who contracted the disease in the workplace and the Inspection and Enforcement Services will reflect on inspectorate interventions to enforce health and safety protocols.
