Minister Tito Mboweni presents Medium Term Budget Policy Statement in Parliament, 24 Oct

Finance Minister Tito Mboweni will present the Medium Term Budget Policy Statement (MTBPS) in Parliament on 24 October 2018.

Lock-ups have been arranged for journalists in Cape Town and Pretoria, allowing access to the MTBPS documents prior to the Minister’s address in Parliament. The information contained in the documents will be under embargo until Minister Mboweni starts speaking in Parliament.

Cape Town lock-up:

Address: 100 Plein Street, this is the entrance for Press Gallery Association (PGA) journalists (those who have offices in Parliament).

120 Plein Street, Imbizo Media Centre. This is for journalists who don’t have offices in Parliament (non-PGA).
Time: 7h00

Journalists attending the Cape Town lock-up must send their details to Kedibone Ralihlare  Kedibone.Ralihlare@treasury.gov.za by 12 October 2018.

Instructions

  • Please indicate your name, media organisation and ID number.
  •  Please indicate whether you will be based at the PGA building or Imbizo Centre.
  •  It is imperative that you RSVP before the closing date so accreditation can be arranged.
  • No prior accreditation, no entry to the lock-ups
  • It will assist us if one person can send a consolidated list of journalists attending from one media house.
  • Due to space limitations at the Imbizo Centre, a maximum of 3 journalists will be allowed from each media organisation for the lock-ups at the Imbizo Centre.
  •  If your media house has an office in Parliament, you are expected to work from there as there is limited space at the Imbizo Centre.
  • Registration at 100 Plein (PGA) and Imbizo Centre will open at 07:00 and close at 08:00.
  •  Journalists working in the Imbizo Centre will need to vacate the room shortly after the embargo has been lifted.
  •  Photographers and television broadcasters who are not part of the lock-up and need access to the Parliament precinct should RSVP with Parliament media by sending their details to mmpindi@parliament.gov.za and CC mntsodo@parliament.gov.za
  • Photographers and television broadcasters who want to take part in the embargoed press conference by Minister Mboweni must also RSVP with National Treasury for accreditation.
     

Pretoria lock-up:
Address: 40 Church Square, Pretoria CBD
Time: 8h00

Journalists must send their details to Sinno Maseko Sinno.Maseko@treasury.gov.za  by 12 October 2018.

Instructions:

  • Journalist are encouraged to bring their own laptops as desktops will not be provided at the Pretoria lock-up.
  •  Indicate in your reply if you will bring your own laptop or you will use the provided PC.
  • It is imperative that you RSVP by the closing date so that accreditation can be arranged.

There is limited space at the Pretoria lock-up, therefore we will cutoff RSVPs when we have reached capacity.

The embargo will be lifted when Finance Minister Tito Mboweni starts speaking in Parliament. Refreshments will be served at 8h30 and 12h30 at all lock-up venues.

*The MTBPS is a Cabinet policy statement tabled in Parliament which sets out the economic context and assumptions that inform the following year’s budget, as well as the framework in which the budget is prepared.
