The official handover of Mama Winnie Mandela Museum as part of the Reconciliation Month Programme

The National Department of Sport, Arts and Culture, Minister Nathi Mthethwa in collaboration with the Free State Provincial Government will on Thursday, 08 December 2022 officially handover the Winnie-Madikizela Mandela Museum. The handover will take place in Winnie Mandela town (formerly known as Brandfort), Majwemasweu Township in the Free State province.

This follows the completion of refurbishment of the historically significant 'House Number 802' into museum in Winnie Mandela town where the late liberation struggle heroine and stalwart was banished to by the apartheid government. Government’s effort to honor and remember the late Mama Madikizela-Mandela, by restoring, and refurbishing the iconic dwelling house and bombed clinic, converting them to interpretative spaces, and a multi-purpose centre with an internet hub and Wi-Fi facilities.

As joined by the Free State Premier, Ms Sisi SH Ntombela, and provincial department of Sport, Arts and Culture, MEC, Ms Limakatso Patricia Mahase the Minister Mthethwa will also launch the 2022 National Reconciliation Month at this iconic house to unpack the reconciliation month programme.  The programme of the day will commence with the Gender-Based Violence march from the Methodist Church to Winnie Madikizela-Mandela Museum @08h00.
