MEC Mbombo to visit Paarl Hospital over sexual assault victim allegations
I am shocked and appalled by reports alleging that a mother and her four year old daughter, a sexual assault victim, were turned away from Paarl Hospital in the past week.
This conduct is abhorrent, unacceptable and falls far short of the Western Cape Government’s vision for providing caring, person centric medical care which respects the dignity of our clients.
I have already spoken to the family of the victim and an urgent investigation into the matter is underway.
This coming Wednesday, I will be visiting the child’s family and I will convene an urgent meeting with the hospital’s management.
In a country where rape and rape culture are so prevalent, we cannot allow ourselves to become part of this problem and fail the most vulnerable members of society who rely on us.
