MEC Albert Fritz launches Braai Polar World Record attempt for charity

Western Cape MEC of Social Development, Adv. Albert Fritz, officially launched the Braai Polar world record attempt for the longest BBQ (braai) by Mr. Richard Knoetze, at the V&A Waterfront.

Richard is the current holder of the world record, which stands at 96 hours of non-stop braaing, and this time is looking to shatter it with 120 hours.

The Braai Polar initiative has truly become a global brand, and is driven by the Face Bipolar organization, founded by Richard, who is himself bipolar. Face Bipolar is a digital platform that provides nutritional and exercise advice, as well as renders support for people living with bipolar disorder and their families.

In support of Braai Polar and many other initiatives and organizations, the Department of Social Development (DSD) remains committed to playing a leading role in the provision of services to people living with disabilities.

In the last five years, DSD has almost tripled the budget for services to persons with Disabilities from spending R47.6-million to R130-million this financial year.

DSD is proud to support initiatives aimed at raising awareness for mental illnesses and disabilities. The public can show their support for Richard by visiting the Braai Polar event at the V&A Waterfront, Breakwater Boulevard.
