The Minister of Environment, Forestry and Fisheries, Ms Barbara Creecy, will on 1 October 2019, deliver the keynote address at the opening of the 10th Oppenheimer Research Conference being hosted in Gauteng.

The Conference, themed Advancing Conservation Consciousness, is being held from 1 to 3 October 2019 in Randjiesfontein, Midrand.

The annual conference being attended by more than 300 delegates will highlight research and conservation success stories with researchers expected to share their research findings on topics ranging from science communication, zoology, aquatics and ornithology to herpetology, economy and holistic conservation management.

The conference supports ground breaking research and key partnerships bringing together some of the continent’s best stakeholders to support Africa-led, innovative research that will contribute to the advancement of environmental and allied sciences. This is critical to reach the country’s objective of ensuring a prosperous environment for future generations.

It is in line with the announcement by the Minister during her budget speech to Parliament in July 2019 that The urgent need for all spheres of government, business, organised labour and civil society to come together in a programme of joint action to combat climate change, environmental degradation and loss of biodiversity.
