Minister Tito Mboweni convenes third colloquium on South African economy, 17 Oct

The Minister of Finance, Tito Mboweni, will once again convene a colloquium on the South African economy on the 17th of October 2019. Since his appointment, the minister has hosted two successful economic colloquia, wherein government officials, public and private sector economists, and academics deliberated on policy proposals on how to improve and grow the South African economy.

The previous colloquia assessed some of the viable policy proposals and interventions that encourage new models and paradigm shifts to support faster and more inclusive economic growth in South Africa. The discussions at the two colloquia were very constructive and assisted in strengthening the recently published paper on South Africa’s economic strategy.

In his third economic colloquium, the updated paper entitled “Towards a growth agenda for the South African economy,” that was published on the National Treasury website, will be discussed.

This is in preparation for the Medium Term Budget Policy Statement to be tabled in Parliament on 30 October 2019. Invitees include members of the President’s Council of Economic Advisors, South African economists and academics, as well as relevant government officials and other strategic stakeholders.

Note: Media will only be allowed to cover the opening remarks. The remaining part of the meeting will be closed to the media.
