MEC Scott returns to Jika Joe informal settlement in Pietermaritzburg
The KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Finance, Ms Belinda Scott, will be at Jika Joe Informal Settlement Musunduzi Municipality Friday 28 July 2017.
MEC Scott visited Jika Joe informal settlement on Tuesday 25 July 2017 and found atrocious conditions that people were living under at this settlement.
Some of the issues she observed include, but not limited to:
- Child-headed households
- Unemployment
- Need for housing
- Need to support an existing crèche
- Sickly people living under the same unbearable conditions for over 15 years.
MEC Scott saw a need to come back urgently with the appropriate officials from the Department of Education, Social Development, Public Works and the Msunduzi Municipality who can really deal with some of the matters that she observed on her visit.
MEC Scott is the Political Champion for uMgungundlovu District under the Operation Sukuma Sakhe programme. Jika Joe Informal Settlement falls under her area in Msunduzi Municipality.
