MEC Peggy Nkonyeni opens two-day KZN Transport Strategic Planning Review Workshop

The Department of Transport has begun its two-day Strategic Planning Review Workshop which is being held at the Olive Convention Centre in Durban.

The planning session will fine-tune the departmental plans for the next financial year and coming years in fulfilment of the mandate and priorities that have been set by the sixth administration.

MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison Ms Neliswa Peggy Nkonyeni said the workshop needs to ensure that the department’s plans are aligned with the National Development Plan and the Provincial Growth and Development Plan. In addition, Nkonyeni said the department’s planning must be in line with the District Development Model.

“Our structure must be aligned with the District Development Model, so that we are able to integrate our planning with other spheres of government and improve coordination when delivering services.

Building the capacity of the state to deliver is one of the strategic focal points for this government. Therefore, we must ensure that work is taking place at district level with one consolidated plan,” said MEC Nkonyeni.

Opening the workshop, MEC Nkonyeni stressed the importance of this strategy workshop which is critical in determining what the department will do in the next financial year and the coming years in fulfilling the mandate and priorities that the sixth administration has set.

The main focus of the workshop will be to recalibrate and align the departmental plans with the National Development Plan, Structural alignment with the District Development Model (DDM), Radical Socio-Economic Transformation (iGula), strengthening the capacity of Supply Chain Management directorate, strengthening of law enforcement on our KZN roads, prioritising all modes of transport and tackling the issue of taxi violence which has led to the loss of many innocent lives.
