MEC Jomo Sibiya hands over title deeds to Bruntville Township beneficiaries, 23 Apr

Security of tenure will be affirmed for Bruntville Township residents today when KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Human Settlements and Public Works Jomo Sibiya this afternoon Friday 23 April officiates at the hand-over of title deeds to beneficiaries of Ward 3 in Mpofana Municipality.

This follows an atmosphere of discontent among Bruntville Township residents who have been waiting for their title deeds and were threatening to embark on a protest action to have their demands acceded to.

After consultation with the municipal leadership, MEC Sibiya has been able to intervene with the issuance of the first batch of title deeds that have gone through the conveyancing process at the Deeds Office.

This afternoon’s title-deed hand over function will be a third within a space of seven days at which MEC Sibiya has officiated.

Last Saturday and Monday the MEC officiated at similar events in Greater Kokstad and Mandeni Municipalities respectively where more than 1 300 title deeds were given to beneficiaries collectively.

“I have made an undertaking to prioritise the issuance of title deeds to eligible beneficiaries and the past two events in Kokstad and Mandeni Municipalities bear testimony and the Bruntville Township hand over is a continuation of that undertaking,” said MEC Sibiya.

The Human Settlements and Public Works MEC will also be joined uMgungundlovu District Municipality Mayor Cllr TE Maphumulo and Mpofana Local Municipality Mayor Cllr XM Duma.
