MEC Gwen Ramokgopa visits Tshwane as part of school health programme and teenage pregnancy awareness campaign, 15 Jan

Gauteng Health MEC Dr Gwen Ramokgopa will tomorrow, Tuesday, 15 January 2019, visit Makgwaraneng Primary in Saulsville, Tshwane as part of school health and teenage learner pregnancy programme.

MEC Ramokgopa will also use the platform to create awareness around the high leaner and teenage pregnancy in Tshwane as part of the undertaking made last year at the launch of the Health, Wellness and Happiness Campaign to prioritise school health programme.

The department has noted an exceedingly high number of young girls between ages of 10-19 years that deliver babies in Tshwane clinics and hospitals together with high number of choice termination of pregnancies performed on the same age group.

Through the school health programme, the department is able to diagnose and treat learners with eyesight, hearing and dental problems, thereby removing hindrances that could affect their learning.

The MEC’s school visit will be preceded by unannounced visit to Kalafong Hospital as part of monitoring service delivery at the facility where Dr Ramokgopa will interact with patients and staff alike.
