Gauteng Health on payment of interns and community service candidates

MEC’s intervention ensures all interns and community services professionals are paid

The Gauteng Department of Health can confirm that all Interns and Community Service Candidates who are properly registered with Health Professions Councils have been paid or are confirmed for payment by 6 February 2019.

Our commitment to ensure that they are paid before end of February has been fulfilled. Since the MEC for Health, Dr Gwen Ramokgopa personally met with affected Interns and Community Service Professionals on 1 February 2019, the Gauteng Department of Health, the Department of e-Governance  and Finance officials worked around the clock led by the HOD of the Gauteng Department of Health, Professor Mkhululi Lukhule  to rectify the delays in payment of salaries.

We invite all Internship and Community Service candidates to confirm their payment with their Human Resources Managers and Hospital CEO's. The CEO’s have been instructed to appraise the affected candidates regularly until full resolution.

The CEOs were also instructed to provide appropriate support including special leave within public service regulations to those candidates who experienced related difficulties.

We expect almost two thirds to have received money in their bank accounts already and the rest to do so by Monday, 11 February 2019 based on the payment run of the 6 February 2019.

The department apologises for the inconvenience with the few days of delay and we’ll ensure that all four outstanding candidates awaiting the Health Professions Councils’ certificates are also urgently assisted.
