Limpopo Government hosts Provincial Transport Indaba, 25 Oct

Limpopo Provincial Government hosts the Provincial Transport Indaba amid fatal accidents

Premier Chupu Stan Mathabatha together with MEC of Transport and Community Safety Mme Makoma Makhurupetje will host the Provincial Transport Indaba on Thursday, the 25 October 2018 at The Ranch Hotel in Polokwane Municipality.

The Provincial Transport Indaba comes at a time when the Province is covered with a dark cloud, mourning the loss of 26 lives that perished on N1 South between Modimolle and Bela-Bela in Limpopo. The accident occurred on Friday, 19 October 2018 whilst the MEC of Transport and Community Safety Ms Makoma Makoma Makhurupetje was hard at work addressing and soliciting long term plans for uniting the Taxi Industry during the Taxi Indaba. Most of the deceased had boarded a mini bus from Bochum “Senwabarwana” to Gauteng.

The Provincial Transport Indaba will deliberate on mechanism of reducing high rate of road accidents, fatalities and traffic congestion on the N1. The Passenger Rail Agency South Africa (PRASA) and Transnet Freight Rail will outline plans to improve freight rail services from Limpopo to Gauteng to alleviate pressure on the road. On the same note South African National Roads Agency Ltd and Roads Agency Limpopo are expected to present on the long term strategy for expanding the roads. However, Gateway Airports Authority Limited (GAAL) will address the small market share of air service in Limpopo.

The Indaba will culminate with the signing of the declaration by MEC Makhurupetje and all stakeholders.

The Provincial Transport Indaba will be held under the theme: Transport, the driver of economic and social development.

As Premier continues to pass sincere condolences to the bereaved families and wishes a speedy recovery to those who incurred injuries. He urges all road users to drive safe and rest if you are exhausted. We also would like to thank our Emergency Services Workers, Traffic Officers and the Police Officers who despite challenges they continue to perform sterling work.
