Premier Willies Mchunu launches Borehole Water infrastructure in Mhlabuyalinga, 29 Jul

Premier and MEC to fight cross-border crime

KwaZulu-Natal Premier Willies Mchunu and the MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison Mxolisi Kaunda will tomorrow 29 July visit Manguzi in Mhlabuyalinga, north of KwaZulu-Natal to intensify the fight against cross-border crime. The media is invited to cover this visit and the event.

Premier remarked: We will introduce measures developed to fight cross-border crime involving the theft of vehicles from KZN and sold in neighbouring countries.”

“There is also a new trend wherein vehicles arrive as completely broken down parts from their original countries only to be assembled in another country. Vehicles from Kenya enter Tanzania through Kilimanjaro into Moshi. Some are smuggled to DRC, Burundi and Malawi. It’s reported that Tanzanian syndicates work with their counterparts in South Africa, Botswana, Mozambique and Kenya.”

“We also want to deal with illegal imports and drug trafficking. In the SADC Protocol on Combating Illicit Drugs, Southern African Heads of State endorsed the following statement: “the region is being increasingly used as a conduit for illicit drugs destined for international markets … illicit drug trafficking generates large financial gains and wealth enabling trans-national criminals and organisations to penetrate, contaminate and corrupt the structures of governments, legitimate commercial and financial business and society at all levels..”

Premier Mchunu and MEC Kaunda will also launch a Borehole Water infrastructure that will help local community access and preserve water.

Media is invited to attend and cover this event.
