Shortly after presenting the state of the province address, KwaZulu-Natal Premier Senzo Mchunu is embarking on a journey to build a stronger province. Today he addressed members of the Durban Chamber of Industry and Commerce during a Business Breakfast at the Royal Hotel in Durban.

“This meeting is extremely important because this is the biggest Chamber in Africa by its size and in terms of active membership. As the provincial government we have taken a decision to strengthen partnerships with the private sector because we understand the important role that you play in terms of creating job opportunities.”

“I want to assure you that as the provincial government we will always be available to assist the chamber and its members in order to realise our vision of building a stronger province. Durban is the economic hub of not only KZN but the whole country and the continent as a whole.

“We therefore need to ensure that we have active engagement focusing on driving investment promotion activities aimed at attracting foreign direct investment into the city. We must have robust engagements on creation and maintenance of an environment conducive to the successful business in as many sectors as possible. These are issues that are clearly reflected in your founding document.”

“We must collaborate to drive skills development because a skilled workforce is a prerequisite for a sustained socio-economic development. We have taken the position that good quality education has to be relevant to the needs of the economy, and it should be judged by the extent to which it makes an individual self-sufficient and able to maintain sustainable livelihoods on leaving school, irrespective of the level attained.”
