MEC Sihle Zikalala launches women-owned clothing manufacturing firm in Msinga, 29 Apr

KZN MEC for Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs to officially launch clothing manufacturing project in Msinga tomorrow

KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs Mr Sihle Zikalala will on 29 April 2019 officially launch a women-owned clothing manufacturing firm in Msinga.

The bustling UMsinga clothing factory which now employs a sizeable workforce was established by Ms Lelly Mntungwa and it is funded by the department through its Women Economic Empowerment programme.

About 20 years ago, the building which Mntungwa now uses, was a shoe factory that used to employ more than 3000 people within the district.

The closing down of the factory was a big tragedy to the community especially UMsinga community where the factory was located. Many families were affected as this was the only source of income in the area.

The whole structure was then vandalised and Ms Mntungwa used her own resources to make at least one section the structure usable.

The MEC will officially launch the project and also handover dozens of industrial sewing machines.

Members of the media are invited to attend, cover and report on this event.
