Deputy Minister Mafu to host inagural Golekane men & women in conversation conference 2021

The Department of Sport, Arts and Culture Deputy Minister, Ms. Nocawe Mafu will on Friday, 26 November 2021 lead the Golekane Men and Women in Conversation Conference to intensify the fight against GBVF at the Freedom Park & Museum, Pretoria.

The conference will be held under the theme, “Uncovering workable GBVF solutions for an effective social response”, as part of Golekane, a 365 Gender Based Violence & Femicide (GBVF) awareness campaign.

The Men and Women in Conversation Conference is aimed at creating a multi-sectoral vibrant platform to uncover workable GBVF solutions collaboratively with social partners such as, the private sector, advocacy groups and NGOs.

While Golekane campaign is primarily concerned with robust discussions amongst men, the upcoming 1-day conference is a multigender and multi-sectoral panel discussions based on the premises that men cannot talk about women without women at the table. It recognises that South Africa is fragmented as a result of GBVF, efforts to create a socially cohesive nation where fathers, mothers, girls, and boys live harmoniously with one another remain significant.

As a multi-stream rotational panel discussion, conference will tackle topics such as: Toxic Masculinity, patriarchy & the role of legislation to ending GBVF; Mental health, Men’s health, and wellness; Poverty as one of the socioeconomic causes of GBVF; and Substance abuse.

Panellists include: Ms. Zozibini Tunzi, South African model and former Miss Universe; Mr. Tendai Mtawarira, former Springbok National Rugby Team Player; Mr. Arne Rust, Brand Director, Carling Black Label;  Ms. Cheryl Zondi, GBV survivor and victor; Mr. Bheki Ngcobo, (Ihashe Elimhlophe), musician; Mr. Sindiswa Mzamo, President of Circle of Global Women Business & owner of Ifearless App; Ms. Kayan Leung, Sonke Gender Justice Lawyer; Ms. Anele Siswana, Clinical Psychologist; Ms. Michelle Lima, Baqhawafazi Ambassador; Mr. Craig Wilkinson, Best-Selling Author, Inspirational Speaker, Social Activist, Dad Coach.
