Health on availability of Coronavirus Covid-19 MAC advisories being accessible to public

Following requests from various stakeholders to have sight of advisories presented to the Minister of Health by the Ministerial Advisory Committee on COVID-19, the Minister has decided to publish these on the website so that all members of the public can have access to it.

As has been stated by the Minister publicly, almost all the advisories were accepted and implemented by the Department and government. The recommendations made were also presented at National Coronavirus Command Council level. This assisted government in taking into account the clinical and science based view, amongst others, when making its decisions.

We point out that there are few advisories (less than 5%) that were not implemented by the department in their entirety. This followed consultations with various stakeholders and in some instances, guidelines published by institutions such as the WHO.

The Minister emphasized “over the years, the Department of Health has had the benefit of gaining expert insight through various Ministerial Advisory Committees dealing with a plethora of health issues. This has helped the department and government in making informed decisions and implementing policy that takes into account views of specialists that are in constant contact with patients, in our pursuit to improve health service delivery and improve the lives of our people”.

There are 45 advisories currently available to the public. The advisories  can be found on the  official South African coronavirus website on the following link: https://sacoronavirus.co.za/category/mac-advisories/
