Minister of Environmental Affairs, Ms Edna Molewa to launch Gauteng Youth Jobs in Waste in the Randfontein Local Municipality

The Minister of Environmental Affairs, Ms Edna Molewa will launch the Gauteng Youth Jobs in Waste programme in the Randfontein Local Municipality on Thursday, 28 July 2016.

The project is designed to assist Local Municipalities within West Rand and Sedibeng District municipalities and to address key waste-related challenges that were identified during a Ministerial clean-up campaign in the area last year.

More than R30 million has been allocated to projects that will employ and skill 492 youth in waste management initiatives.

The Department has funded numerous projects within the Randfontein Municipality which are being implemented using labour-intensive methods as per requirements of Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP), with special look towards 58% of women employment, 65% youth and 2% being disabled people.

Minister Molewa will be joined by Minister Molewa will be joined by Gauteng Human Settlements MEC, Mr Paul Mashatile, and the MEC for Economic, Environment, Agriculture and Rural Development, Mr Lebogang  Maile.
